The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)  [1]

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organization for promoting the adoption of renewable energy worldwide.IRENA, It evolved from a project by EUROSOLAR [2].  It promotes a rapid transition towards the widespread and sustainable use of renewable energy on a global scale. Acting as the global voice for renewable energies,  IRENA is the first international organisation to focus exclusively on renewable energies, addressing both industrialised and developing world’s needs.

IRENA  provides practical advice and support for both industrialised and developing countries, thereby helping to improve frameworks and build capacity. Moreover, the Agency intends to facilitate access to all relevant information, including reliable data on the potentials for renewable energy, best practices, effective financial mechanisms, and state-of-the-art technological expertise.

The head quarter of IRENA is located in in Masdar City, which is currently under construction. Masdar City will be the world's first carbon-neutral, zero-waste city completely powered by renewable energy. IRENA will turn the United Arab Emirates the global centre of a future renewable energy industry and expertise. Bonn will host IRENA’s centre of technology and innovation and that in Vienna the Agency’s liaison office for cooperation with other organisations.

According to Gulf News, becaming the head of IRENA the UAE will retain its place as a major energy exporter when the fossil fuel era is over and replaced by a time of renewable energy reliance, as the country could eventually export renewable energy. [3]
