New study at Science Journal written by the lobby of Oil and coal giants

The study of Shindell et al. 2012, published at the Science Journal was written by researchers lobbying for Oil and coal giants. The researchers divert from the primary causes and focus on the effect of climate change. This is the classic media strategy of the carbon economy. This is also the strategy of the wreckful climate politics of Obama and his energy secretary Steven Chu based at the expenses of the rest of humanity. [1]

Strategy based on effects, the plan B
The authors present 14  measures targeting methane and black carbon (BC) emissions: Methane in atmosphere has a short life compared to CO2 which remains there for millenniums. Emission reduction of methane could lead to better results, say the authors. Their suggestions are:

           Strategy to reduce methane
- Collect  natural gas (methane) emanating from natural gas and coal mining, as well gas of landfill sites.
- Close holes and leaks of natural gas pipelines.
- Drain frequently the rice fields.
- Reduce gases from cow dung and  animal husbandry.

          Strategy to reduce black carbon
- Install catalytic converters  for Diesel engines.
- Decommission car with old inefficient engines.
- Stop burn off farm land.
- Modernise cooking facilities: Mainly in India, China, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

All strategies, except for farming measures, are based on the effect of the combustion of carbon. All of them have already been integrated in the European Union. None of them have been introduced in America, the country which is the most important denier to work constructively with climate issues. Green measures are an ugly word at the White House.

Crippled activities of the government and energy corporations [2]
the program was created by President George W. Bush under Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. It was expanded, again under Bush, in 2007. And it was added to once again as part of the 2009 economic stimulus package Congress approved.

Advanced Energy Initiative Goals – Fueling Our Vehicles [3]
Even the catastrophic administration of George W. Bush looked like heaven compared with the stalled  renewables under Obama and his energy secretary Steven Chu.   Here is the Bush strategy for 2020:

• Develop advanced battery technologies that allow a plug-in hybrid-electric
vehicle to have a 40-mile range operating solely on battery charge.
• Foster the breakthrough technologies needed to make cellulosic ethanol costcompetitive
with corn-based ethanol by 2012.
• Accelerate progress towards the President’s goal of enabling large numbers
of Americans to choose hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2020.
Obama first “green” activity was to cancel the hydrogen program of  George W. Bush. During the administration of Obama U.S.A. Is experiencing a deterioration of its technology.

The deeds of the administration of Obama
Almost nothing changed related to renewable energy generation from 2008 to 2011, and no change is planed until 2020.

Renewable energy 2008 2011 2020

The energy strategy of Obama  In March 2011 [4]
Obama was pleased to announced that America produced more oil in 2010 than it had in the last seven years. The president continued “We’re taking steps to encourage more offshore oil exploration and production – as long as it’s safe and responsible. And, because we know we can’t just drill our way out of our energy challenge, we’re reducing our dependence on oil by increasing our production of natural gas and biofuels, and increasing our fuel efficiency. Last year, we announced ground-breaking fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks.
And beyond our efforts to reduce our dependence on oil, we must focus on expanding cleaner sources of electricity, including renewables like wind and solar, as well as clean coal, natural gas, and nuclear power.”

Obama increased sand oil extraction, drilling at Alaska and fracking to get sheep oil and natural gas out of dwindling sources. Environmental issues rremain unregarded.

Strategy based on causes, the plan A
America and other big polluters should plan to phase out carbon based fuels. The alternative is clear to focus on wind farms and solar energy (photovoltaic and thermal power plants). This may be added by some regional important clean energy like hydroelectricity, geothermal energy tide and wave power. Biofuels like biodiesel and alcohol from maize and sugar cane or biodiesel from jatropa, palm oil should be considered only as local alternative.

Stop kindergarten suggestions of the Shindell et al. 2012 article at Science Journal. Stop lobbying against plan A. Start to increase pressure on Obama and the secretary of energy to follow a sustainable strategy. America should stop to boycott global efforts on climate protection. Stop to please the Wall Street handling energy prices.
